New from Mineheart for Maison & Object January 2016, designers Brendan Young and Vanessa Battaglia have updated their classic King Edison lamp creating a larger Grande version of the original design and adding a new King Edison Noir to the range.
The King Edison features a miniature brass chandelier inside a handblown glass shade and represents the collision of two design genres; the factory edison bulb with the Renaissance King chandelier. The King Edison is the perfect example of how Young and Battaglia like to merge different periods and styles to create something new, contemporary and daring. Like so much of the Mineheart range it is full of subtle detail and wit.
The new King Edison Grande is diameter 280mm X height 320mm. In the new larger size the King Edison makes a real design statement and will make a stunning centre piece over a table; hanging either side of a bed; or down a hallway. The King Edison Noir features a black glass bulb giving the chandelier glimpsed inside a ghostly feel. The Noir comes in both standard and Grande sizes.
Also launching at Maison will be the Feather Light and the Birdcage Lamp. The Feather Light features a ring of softest Ostrich feathers held in place by slender gold arms. It comes in white or black and in pendant and table lamp styles. The Birdcage Lamp, inspired by the golden cage of myths and fairytales, is created in polished brass and within that is a single white glass shade.
The new lighting collection demonstrates Young and Battaglia’s trademark talent for taking traditional themes and subverting them to create weirdly whimsical but super stylish contemporary originals.
“We like to play with the idea of the stories behind the products, in our minds they are a cross between what you would find in a fairytale and a museum.” Vanessa Battaglia.
