Teal is a colour that seems to be hugely popular at the moment. From lighter, pastel shades to deep, dark Spring Teal (like one of the walls in my living room), it’s both a warming and interesting colour that evokes a certain sense of style.
Using Teal in and around the home can create a vast array of looks. Bright Teal paired with other neon tones can bring about a fun and fresh atmosphere. Combining it with neutrals creates something more serene and peaceful, while deep greys evoke an ambience of sophistication.
Today we’ll look at a number of colour palettes that work brilliantly with Teal, giving you a head full of ideas for your next design project.
Use Teal combined with Mustard Yellow for a modern look.
Jonathan Lo uses this stunning combination of teal and mustard yellow to great effect in his bedroom makeover. The careful use of colour in key places ensures no single part of the room is overwhelmed. It’s all nicely balanced, fun and most of all – grown up.
I particularly love his workspace with the minimalist chair and dark teal walls. Since yellow is a creative colour, I’m sure there’ll be many productive hours sat in this inspirational space. You can learn all about Jonathan’s makeover here.
Copper and Teal makes an elegant couple that’s all the rage this year.
All it takes is a quick search to discover that copper is a huge trend this season. By adding copper accents to a room decorated in shades of teal, you can create an atmosphere that’s almost victorian in its appeal. Lovers of steam punk will love playing with this look, while items such as this Gandia Blasco Hand Tufted Mosaic Yellow Rug is the perfect finishing accessory.
Go bold with bright geometrics
Teal doesn’t have to mean drab and boring either. By decorating in neutral shades, you can layer up on the textiles with your key accent colours.
In this example bold geometric prints have been used with the barest hint of teal (although it could be argued that it’s more turquoise). This creates a totally different atmosphere – one of fun and frivolity, as well as having a fresh youthfulness that’s a pleasure to behold.
Create your own Teal colour palette
You can always experiment with your own colour choices to find that perfect teal combination. Flick through magazines, browse pinterest and take in the different ways people have used this fantastic colour. Then pick the key tones from those images to make your very own combination.
